PHOTOGRAPHY EXPOSED

M _ METERING

Cameras often allow you to change the method for metering. Center-weighted average metering (the most common used) spot and partial metering. Some more advanced cameras also support evaluative, pattern, or matrix metering. I always used center-weighted average metering, using the wee screen on the back to check the image. For me, if it looked OK, it was OK. I was shooting in aperture priority most of the time. Keep things simple.

TOP TIP For awkward lighting conditions, just bracket and one of your shots should be OK. Alternatively, use your exposure compensation dial or do what I often did, walk or zoom in, fill the frame with the awkwardly lit subject, note the settings for correct exposure, press and hold exposure lock and take the image.
